12th Generation Igaisai Chikufu Shōchi
(1904-1979)

Igaisai, who succeeded to the headship at the age of 39 during the Pacific War, patiently preserved the lineage through the difficult times of wartime and post-war. In his later years, he successively accomplished new initiatives such as establishing the Iemoto system adapted to the new era and creating a nationwide organization for disciples.

In 1968, he opened the Tokyo training center, and in 1970, he was in charge of the tea ceremony at the Japanese garden for the World Expo along with the heads of the five schools. He was also enthusiastic about popularizing tea ceremony through writing and broadcasting, contributing actively to Introduction to Tea Ceremony and the school's official magazine. He always appeared on NHK broadcasts himself to promote the Yabunouchi school of tea ceremony.

In 1974, he established the nationwide disciple organization Kōgi Sadō Yabunouchi Ryū Chikufu Kai (Ancient Tea Ceremony Yabunouchi School Chikufu Association), and in 1977, the Yabunouchi En'an Foundation, thereby establishing the foundation for the current Yabunouchi school organization. Died in 1979 at the age of 75.
