~The following is quoted from the internet~
What is Kishu Lacquerware?
Kishu lacquerware is lacquerware produced mainly in the Kuroe district in the northwestern part of Kainan City, Wakayama Prefecture. For this reason, Kishu lacquerware is also called Kuroe-nuri.
Kishu lacquerware is characterized by its simplicity, durability, and practicality for everyday use. Kishu lacquerware has been popular as everyday items for common people since the Edo period.
Kishu lacquerware is also famous for its patterns where the black base layer appears through the vermilion coating. This pattern originates from Negoro-nuri, which began at Negoro-ji Temple in Iwade City, Wakayama Prefecture.
In addition to traditional Negoro-nuri style lacquerware, Kishu lacquerware also meets various needs, including lacquerware decorated with maki-e and mass-produced items made of synthetic resin materials.
