In 1952, Red Wing Shoes was the first to introduce and release a work and hunting boot for men featuring a white, flat, and cushioned traction tread sole. This was the 8-inch tall boot, #877. The boot was an immediate success upon its release, and various iterations expanded within a few years. The 6-inch tall #875 is one of them.

The comfort of the moccasin-style toe (moc toe). The traction tread sole makes it easy to walk anywhere and reduces fatigue even after long wear. Furthermore, with the functionality and durability provided by high-quality leather and robust construction, the #875, along with the #877, gained immense support from workers, becoming an iconic American work boot. Even after approximately 65 years, it continues to be loved as a representative Red Wing boot.

The #875 originally used a brown oiled leather called Oro Russet from its release in the 1950s until the 1990s. Over its long history, its hue has changed several times, sometimes exhibiting a bright gold tone and at other times a stronger reddish tint. In 2014, the leather was returned to its original orange-brown, oil-rich leather, resulting in the current Oro Legacy leather. This leather is made by selecting hides with a particularly smooth grain, and after tanning, it is dyed without any coating on the grain surface, resulting in a leather with a natural texture. It gains character and deepens in richness with wear.
