This was purchased by my family about 30 to 40 years ago when they traveled to the United States for work.

The figure in the image is a vintage Native American woman and baby figurine (statue) made by Universal Statuary Corp., which was popular in Chicago, USA in the 1970s.
The base is stamped with UNIVERSAL STATUARY CHICAGO, and many pieces in this series were designed by artist Vaughn Kendrick around 1976.
Features:
Design: A very warm and heartwarming sculpture of a Native American mother (or girl) sitting with a baby on her back in a traditional papoose/cradleboard.
Material: Although it looks like wood carving, it is actually made of a high-strength resin called FiberClad InFrangible developed by the company at the time, or chalkware (plaster), giving it a substantial weight.
Paint: Each piece is hand-painted, giving it a rustic charm like folk art.
Collector's Item Value:
It is very popular in the vintage market as an American retro, Western, or Native American-themed interior decoration.
Made of resin.
