This canoe, which can be called a Northern Workhouse, was created by Chestnut Canoe Company for explorers who needed a canoe that was easy to maneuver even when heavily loaded in rapids and strong currents.
The Prospector features a flat shallow arch bottom, with ample space for cargo at both ends (bow and stern).
The generous depth in the center maintains freeboard, and the increased depth at the ends helps keep the paddler and cargo dry.
The tight rocker in the keel line provides excellent maneuverability in whitewater.

It was a favorite model of Bill Mason, arguably Canada's top paddler. He stated:
It's amazing that a tripping canoe with such large volume can be paddled beautifully solo in a lean position. It's truly the ballet of canoes. An ideal all-around canoe.

This canoe is recommended for those who also want to enjoy river cruising.
