Magician of the Ropes, The Uncrowned King,
Original Japanese Killer

March 19, 1955: Professional debut, lost by KO in the 3rd round.

August 31, 1961: First visit to Japan. Won by KO in the 5th round against Mitsunori Seki (Shinwa). As Seki cornered Medel against the ropes and was about to land the finishing blow, Medel's right counter exploded, and Seki collapsed to the canvas.

September 21, 1961: Won by 10-round decision against Oriental Junior Featherweight Champion Haruo Sakamoto (Kyokuto).

March 20, 1962: Fought #1 World Flyweight contender Sadao Yaoita (Nakamura). This was a match between the #1 contenders in both the bantamweight and flyweight divisions. After a highly technical fight, Medel won by 10-round decision.

September 26, 1963: Fought Fighting Harada (Sasazaki). After being dominated for 5 rounds, Medel landed his signature counter in the 6th round, winning by KO in 2 minutes and 48 seconds.

May 13, 1965: Won by 10-round decision against world-ranked Katsuo Saito (Akatsuki).

January 3, 1967: Challenged for Harada's World Bantamweight Championship at Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium. In their first meeting in 4 years since 1963, Harada used his footwork to stay out of Medel's counter range. When attacking, he closed the distance and rushed, nullifying Medel's counters and preventing the fight from developing into the mid-range slugfest that Medel favored. In the final round, Medel's counter finally caught Harada, staggering him momentarily. However, Harada clinched to escape, and lost by 15-round decision, failing to capture the title once again.
